What Matters Most

Hello dear friends and fellow bloggers! A very warm welcome to you all! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to visit me here! I really appreciate you all so much!

Love without conditions...animals define unconditional love. Mirror of the soul...they remind us who we really are. Courage and compassion...strength without words.

Our duty of care...the greatest of a nation is judged by how it treats its animals.

Animals don't just share our homes. They share our humanity.

Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters.

I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle  these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage and tangled Christmas tree lights.

The following photos are my own, which I took with my cellphone last month. I went one morning to a delicatessen for breakfast. I had just smoked salmon, there were three thin slices of the smoked salmon, two sunny side up eggs, rye toast, coffee and water.
It was delicious. You can click on any image to see a larger view.

These last two photos are ones that I took in a park that the city had so beautifully decorated for the winter. The city also made a skating rink on one of the paths in the park so that anyone skating and enjoying the exercise and fresh air would have these beautiful views. As well, anyone walking in or by the park could also enjoy these views. I just had to take these last two photos last month, near the end of February, before the city takes them down. The round balls that you see higher in the photos are actually lights suspending from the regular trees! They are ornaments. As far as the fir trees go, the city will take them down soon along with the ornamental lights, as they do every year.

The following video is a Just for Laughs Gag (Juste pour Rire in French) done here in Montreal. I have posted this one on my blog before, months ago, but some of you may not have seen it, and those of you who have may enjoy seeing it again. It is a favourite! Enjoy!  :)

  5. There's nothing like a good deli breakfast! Winnipeg (where I used to live) had some great delis. Edmonton (where I live now) does not. I feel the loss keenly.

  9. Those are such beautiful photos! The snow, the trees and the lights are stunning. I've had people come and go in my life and it's jarring but I've adapted. If they didn't want to stay, they weren't meant to be around anyway. That looks like a lot of salmon! I love eggs any time of day.

  29. I like your breakfast, Linda. Actually Canadian breakfast is well balanced in terms of protein and carbohydrates, compared with Italian and French one (for example croissants and donuts).

Failing to fulfill someone's expectations (or being disappointing) doesn't make us rude or unpolite. I agree on this.

Our mental health is more important than our self-presentation. That's a great point, Linda.

Today I chose precisely that phrase from the ones that appeared. Sometimes you read several and move on, but this one made me stop for a moment. It felt simple and very accurate, one of those you read and pause to think about for a second.
And thanks as well for showing the breakfast that inspired the photo: salmon, rye toast and fried eggs. That’s a great way to start the day.

  42. As always, starting with cats, is such a good thing. And it is okay if dogs and other animals also make an appearance. 😄

An ice rink along a path reminds me of Beaver Lake when I was a boy. I wonder if they still do that.

  53. We have so many family friends that are our family. That one is so true. I was so slow in getting out of the pool after my aqua therapy yesterday. Part of me was trying to rush so I didn't "look" so sad/bad. Then, I stopped and thought, you can NOT go to fast, you WILL fall again, WHO Cares what others think. So good ones for me this week.

  54. Oi, Linda! Adorei todas as mensagens! Me chamou a atenção o café da manhã que você tirou foto: vcs comem peixe de manhã no café! Aqui peixe só no almoço e salmão é bastante caro, geralmente compro outros peixes. Beijos nas bochechas! 😘🌺

  61. Dear Linda,

I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch much lately. You might remember that I wrote about my little cat Baribal, who became very ill, couldn’t be saved, and had to be put to sleep. I stayed with him until the end, watching him suffer for many hours and feeling helpless. I’m trying to get back to normal, but it’s not easy for me. I still can’t get over it, and to be honest, pictures of animals and quotes about them feel like salt in the wound.

Even so, please remember that you are doing a great job and bringing a lot of joy to people. I sincerely send you my regards and wish you happiness!

  80. Such a comforting mix of gentle wisdom and small joys. The quotes you chose this time feel especially grounding, and the reminders about slowing down and tending to our own well‑being really resonated. Your breakfast photos made me smile too – simple moments like that can set the tone for the whole day. The winter lights in the park look magical, almost like a quiet celebration lingering a little longer. Your posts always create a peaceful pause in the middle of everything, and this one did exactly that.
