A Health Update

Hello dear friends and fellow bloggers! A very warm welcome to you all! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to visit me here! I really appreciate you all so much!

If you haven't yet seen my regular Monday post, please click on this link Anger, Forgiveness Thank you so much! :)

I spoke with my doctor today on the phone. She gave me the results of the two tests I had done in the last few weeks, the barium swallow (for my difficulty swallowing and chronic cough) and the blood test I had done last Wednesday.

In reference to the barium swallow test I did a few weeks ago, there were no abnormalities in the results.

Now my doctor has put me on a list to see a gastroenterologist, which could take up to 3 months.

As for the blood test results, my blood sugar is high...not dangerously so, but she wants me to be vigilant in what I eat.

In the meantime, she has emailed me a document for another blood test, which she wants me to go in October for. She wants to keep a close watch, because of my pre-diabetic condition.

That is the news for now, thank you so much for your prayers 🙏 and thoughts on my behalf.

  4. Linda, it's not silent reflux, is it? (I have that and it can cause similar problems, and can lead to esophageal cancer if left untreated.) Perhaps that has already been considered and dismissed, I'm just tossing it out, based on my own experiences. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  13. I have been through the exact same thing with the chronic cough and reflux! Please read this because I coughed endlessly for FIFTEEN YEARS and it was horrible. The gastroenterologist couldn't solve the coughing problem. Even after intense surgery for GERD (look up nissin fundoplication), I still coughed and coughed. The ENT specialist told me I must have cough variant asthma, and he was laughably wrong -- I mean seriously, that was a reach, in reality he was just stumped. Eventually in frustration I did some internet searching and discovered that I might have laryngeal sensory neuropathy. I went to an allergist that specializes in chronic cough, and they confirmed that I was correct. So basically I diagnosed myself after years and years of coughing, sometimes so violently that I would throw up. I was so angry that all these doctors and specialists couldn't tell me what my problem was for so many years! The allergist prescribed Gabapentin and I've been on it for 10 years now and it has made a MASSIVE difference. This just goes to prove that when it comes to medical issues, you have to advocate for yourself! FYI, the GERD damaged my vagus nerve, that's why the coughing. The Gabapentin specifically helps with nerve issues. PLEASE ask your doctors to look up laryngeal sensory neuropathy. It seems that gastroenterologists have no idea about this condition but I can confirm that Gabapentin will probably help you a lot! :)

  14. thanks for your health update. yes, let's together be more conscious about the food that we eat daily and try to practice 'clean-eating'. I'm struggling too especially with sugar intake as food with sugar always looks attractive (desserts like cake etc)

  17. Thank you for the updates. A good doctor does keep a good eye on you. As a person who enjoys cooking and recipes, I am not happy that all the advice I get is food related. But we have to do what we have to do, right?

  20. On the route to a diagnosis and treatment, they do need to rule various things out, so glad to hear your barium swallow test ruled out any abnormalities.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So far so good, I guess. No abnormal findings is goid. However it would certainly be nice to find out what it is, not what it isn't.

  22. Linda,
I am glad there were no abnormalities in the swallow test. Prayers you can get into the gastroenterologist speedily. Thanks for the update. Hugs.

  24. Hi Linda, so far so good, just the high sugar part. That is easy to control via your diet. I hope that your future tests will go well and that everything is all right. I am keeping you in my prayers!

  25. Well, that sounds acceptable. Are your doctors English or French? I presume they are bilingual, but I do wonder.

    1. Hi John, the doctors here are bilingual. The English ones can communicate in French and the French ones can communicate in English.

  29. Hope that you get an earlier appointment for the test!

  30. It takes forever to see a gastroenterologist here, too. They seem to be much busier than other specialists.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am sorry you are stuck on the medical merry go round with no end in sight

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry to hear but you are in good hands although September still takes a while but when it would be urgent you would have be helped earlier Take care ❤️

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am glad you are being proactive with testing etc. I need to be more careful with what I eat too but giving up sugar is not so easy when you have eaten sweet all your life. Progress is being made though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's good the test was normal.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Linda, I'm keeping you in my thoughts. I know the waiting can be frustrating. In the meantime take good care of yourself 🍀

  41. Hello,
I am glad your test results were good. Diet will help with the pre-diabetic results. It seems like it takes longer to see specialists here.
Take care, have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  42. J'espère que ton médecin trouvera la solution à tes soucis au plus vite.
    Bon courage Linda.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You know, from a certain age on a lot of people suffer from a narrow throat, I can see that here. And also the coughing is "normal". My room neighbor has already consulted I don't know how many doctors and nobody can find what it is. Some think it can be allergy, some think it is stress. And a little bit of diabetes we have all, me included. Don't worry too much ! When you are in your third youth you get all kind of ouchies
! important is, that you keep an eye on them ! So it's good what you are doing. I just had my eyes checked. Here in my residence you can live like at home and if you want to drink 10 bottles of wine per day, that's your business of course you have to behave correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thank you for the health update, Linda. I'm glad your doctor is following up with a referral to a specialist and a follow up blood test to monitor your blood sugar levels. I'm sure that you will be able to bring the blood sugar under control through diet and exercise.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Just keep an eye on your sugar and what you are eating. I am sure they have said what to avoid. I really hope they get to the route of the problem. Sound like you are in good hands Linda.

Read up on Dr Michael Mosley and how to reverse type 2 diabetes and stop it. He managed to sort himself out and reverse his. He was a wonderful man <3

Take care Linda and thanks for letting us know. :-D

  47. Isn't it good to know your results are alright, and that's a while to wait for the test, but that's the way it is I suppose, Linda.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've done the swallow evaluation - not fun. I wasn't drinking enough and the barium, let say, just sat there and slowed everything down. I know I'm not swallowing as good as I was last year, but I'm not doing another one of those evaluations. I hope they can give you some answers.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ...Linda, I wish the best on your health issues. Be well!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thank you for the update, Linda. I know it must be frustrating to not have a complete answer with regard to swallowing but at least they haven't found anything terrible. The blood sugar is manageable and it is good they are keeping an eye on it. Continued prayers that you get in to see a gastroenterologist sooner rather later.
