Here are today's picks, which I hope will brighten your day in some way!
There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. - Albert Schweitzer
Reader's DigestWhen you distance yourself from negativity...beautiful things happen.
The Cat SiteGet out of mental jail free - you are released for crimes committed while scared, hungry or heartbroken. Plus for yelling at your kid when you were tired. Hiding in the bathroom at parties because people are exhausting. Canceling plans because your anxiety said, "Absolutely not today." Still being triggered by that thing from childhood. Eating snacks for dinner because your depression said, "no cooking." Proceed directly to your life. Do not pass judgement. Do not collect additional shame. - Karen Salmansohn
Your To Die For LifeBlessed is the person who is too busy to worry in the daytime and too sleepy to worry at night. - Unknown
Mommy MomentShame is the warm feeling that washes over us, making us feel small, flawed and never good enough. - Brene Brown
Dwell in MagicShame should be reserved for the things we choose to do, not the circumstances that life puts on us. - Ann Patchett
CoolnsmartShame shouldn't be a symptom of mental illness.
Made of Millions FoundationHaving depression is like being in a mental prison - at first, you experience intense sadness, grief or even anger...but over time you get deflated and end up feeling paralyzingly numb. You are imprisoned in your "inner world" and can't engage with the "outer world". You can't feel anything.
The Depression ProjectI've got the key to my mental prison, but I keep misplacing it between all these "what ifs?!"
Door to Self GrowthYour mind can be either your prison or your palace. What you make it is yours to decide. - Bernard Kelvin Clife
Wisdom Made EasyThe difference between shame and guilt is the difference between I am bad and I did something bad.
Dr. Brene BrownStop worrying about people that aren't worried about you.

Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere....I need to remind myself of this quote when I am worried about something!
ReplyDeleteVery wise words about emotions we all struggle with.
ReplyDelete"Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do but never gets you anywhere." - Good one! 🌀 You have many excellent warnings here today. Warnings that hopefully give peope wake-up calls ❤️ We are - or should be - masters of our own minds.
ReplyDeleteYou found so many sweet quotes about depression and worry, and the video of the horse drawn carriage is so funny, I watched it a couple times.
ReplyDeleteDear Linda, very inspiring, positive quotes. I have a cat in my house, so I know its therapeutic effect. Beautiful winter photos. Warmest regards :)

ReplyDeleteThe snow in your region seems to melt. Here in the Bavarian forest, too. Still you (and me) have enough of this white joy*********
Many greetings and blessings from Dori from the Bavarian Forest.
By the way. I always (daily) pray for all prisoners, humans and animals, sometime even plants - and for the prisoners of their own mind and situation.
Hi LInda, your memes and quotes today, I have to read them twice or thrice to fully understand, they have depth. Your 2 own photos, beautiful cloudy weather, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDear friend Linda, I got a cat yesterday - well, it´s just a pocket hug, but that´s as close as I can get. The what ifs...
ReplyDeleteThe rocking chair-idea is very clever, as the bubbles.
I wonder the people don´t panic in the Carriage - I sure would!
Wow on the whale! Thank you, warm hugs and much love to you 😘
We all need a pass free from mental jail!
ReplyDeleteCats and books and music - in that order :-D
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda, for the time and care you put into your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt shows in every post, always written to accompany us, make us reflect, or simply bring a smile to our faces.
Wishing you lots of encouragement and sending a big hug.
The horse driver video is so funny!
ReplyDeleteHere in Portugal we also get all seasons in one day :)
I love sleeping because there is no room for worry ;)
Have a nice weekend!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteGreat post Linda, Worrying is a waste of time.
I like the one where you can blow your worries away in a bubble.
Take care, have a great day!
Merci pour ces superbes citations , j'adore ..
ReplyDeleteBisous et douce journée .
Thérèse
Another nice selection. It seems this year when we get snow it only comes in large quantities.
ReplyDeleteVery snowy shots.
ReplyDeleteThe prank was quite good, and I appreciate your personal photos.
ReplyDeleteI like the quote about Depression, it's very true. You don't have a lot of snow this year, maybe it comes later. We had snow for a week and now it's all green again.
ReplyDeleteLet my Light be a comforting blanket, to those who wander in the Darkness of a depression.
ReplyDeleteWinter depression decided to skip me this Year. So I can share my Light with all.
Thanks for all the words of wisdom, Linda. It's not mild anymore and I think this storm system is heading your way too. Please stay safe and have a cosy day! 🌨️☕📖
ReplyDeleteUnas frases muy educativos y para pensar todas y cada una de ellas.
ReplyDeleteLo que parece ser muy cambiante es la climatología en Canadá.
Saludos.
I really appreciated that thoughts and quotes here today, and the story of the whale and the diver was remarkable! Wow!!!!! We just really don't know the depths of how God's Creation is here FOR us! God knows what we need and when we need it! Amazing story. And Paul Simon's Kodachrome brought back memories! This was all good, and I thank you for taking the time to put it all together for us. Have a blessed and wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteTrès jolie page et des citations fortes de sens. Merci Linda.
ReplyDeleteBonne journée.
Intersting quote about being prisoners of our past. I remember a quote you published about the same topic on your previous posts: "Never be a prisoner of your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence".
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, Linda ❄☕🌲
Nothing better than a purring cat on my lap to take my mind off things. If I'm honest - I can't wait for spring :) hugs, Duni
ReplyDeleteI loved "All in the Family." Thanks for sharing that. It looks like your snow has melted some -- is that so or just an optical illusion?!
ReplyDeleteThese all were good. I like the one too busy during day, too tired at night.
ReplyDeletePut your worries in a bubble and blow them away. = Agree!
ReplyDeleteDear Linda, thank you for sharing your two photos taken by your hp.
ReplyDeleteYou are really talented. Your two photos are very atmospheric. They give me a sense of melancholic and nostalgic feelings. Very nice photos 👍😊
The carriage video gave me a good laugh this morning. Can you imagine what the riders were thinking. Have a blessed day Linda.
ReplyDeleteYes, we confirm the motto at the beginning: the cat is in the foreground. That's how we did it with our two darlings. Both are now in cat heaven, and the neighbour's cat regularly visits us for cuddles and to be protected.
ReplyDeleteOn New Year's Eve, I carried the trembling little animal in my arms half the night to calm him down...
Those are all so good and yes, cats really do help with stress, mental and otherwise!
ReplyDeleteWonderful quotes and images. Love the videos, thanks for sharing and making our day brighter.
ReplyDeleteYou do have some snow up there, don't you?
ReplyDeleteStop worrying about people that aren't worried about you. I tell you this is the total truth. Why do we do it?
Can't say All in the Family was my favorite show.
Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind reply and your New Year's greetings.
May you also have many beautiful and loving moments in this new year.
Sometimes a lot has to happen to be able to go through life smiling again. You've certainly provided plenty of inspiration here :-)
Warm regards,
Helma
Dear Linda, you've packed so many heartwarming quotes and insights into this post for everyone. Thank you so much! It's good that it's a bit milder; the snow has completely melted here again. Have a good rest of the week! hugs Elke
ReplyDeleteGood evening, my dear friend. We are in the middle of January and the weather has not the right stability for winter. My best regards to you with my own wishes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic coincidence : we talked about shame and guilt today during psychotherapy.
ReplyDeleteBom dia minha querida amiga Linda. Obrigada pelas reflexões. Parabéns pelas fotos. Não consego imaginar como seria a reação do meu corpo com a neve. Grande abraço do seu amigo brasileiro.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteMy cats like to cause mayhem! But then they sleep and we all calm down. ❤️
ReplyDeleteAll sentences are very interesting, useful and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBest regards :)
I like them all, but the one about Get out of mental jail free made me laugh out loud!! Hope you're doing well.
ReplyDeleteHello Linda :)
ReplyDeleteWorrying doesn't help anyone. I like the quote Blowing your worries away in bubbles, and I enjoyed the music.
All the best
Sonjia.
Very thoughtful! Much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI am one who goes to music for refuge but not to cats. (smile)
ReplyDeleteLOVE!!! the “Get Out of Mental Jail Free” card.
This entire post is so encouraging, like a good friend coming alongside with a hot beverage and non-judgmental ears, ready to listen. Thanks so much!
Nice snowy pictures. Snowing again here today.
ReplyDeleteCats and music are daily gifts in my realm.
Beijo, amiga querida.
Nice gag, Linda, once more! Beautiful song.
ReplyDeleteLie(f)s.
These are good ones Linda. I love your first one and totally agree with it. Albert Schweitzer was a wise man indeed :-D And I need to learn this one: "Stop worrying about people that aren't worried about you."
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing better. Did you see my update on Tues? Was at the hospital and don't need to wear the moonboot 24/7. I can learn to walk but only put a little weight on it and build up gradually. Need to wear the boot for walking though. Now it is being used the pain has started and the doctor said to fight through it.
I didn't know that Carrol O' Connor could sing.
ReplyDeleteWhat wise wisdom in these words. Thank you for sharing. By the way, you should watch this Muppet video:

It makes me happy. Be well!
Hello from Edinburgh, where it's not snowy, I'm happy to say. What a lot of thoughts!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! That was some real nostalgia at the end with Carroll O’Connor and Paul Simon’s Kodachrome. Personally, I liked Fujichrome better. Younger generations won’t know what those were for.
ReplyDeleteI like the Erma Bombeck quote. She was a wise woman!
ReplyDeleteI really like the get out of mental jail free card. If only it were that easy.
ReplyDeleteI am with Albert Schweitzer - music and a cat. Throw in a book as well.
ReplyDeleteNot worrying is quite difficult at the moment, though.
I had never heard any words to that song at the end of All in the Family either. Funny how we can miss things in the past. Or maybe forget them. It is amazing what our minds tell us when we are not feeling well. And I agree that I just want to be away from people, it is too overwhelming at times.
ReplyDeleteLíbí se mi citáty, protože duševní choroby se rozšířily. "Dejte své starosti do bubliny a odfoukněte je". Kéž by to šlo!
ReplyDeleteWorrying is tiring.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
So much to like here, Linda!

I like the memes about worrying. It is futile but hard to turn off.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, oh my, a lot of these spoke to me today. Thank you SO much for sharing the quotes.
ReplyDeleteLove, Carla
Carroll O'Connor... what a talent! Actor, singer, songwriter, and who knows what else!
ReplyDelete“Worry is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere.”
ReplyDeleteVery well said — this is one of the best quotes I’ve come across recently. I’ll truly try to remember it, because it’s so important!
Dear Linda, warm greetings to you and wishing you a lovely weekend. Take care! 🌷
This morning I woke up to a complaint from a customer about a book I sold. Imo totally discussable, but sitting with good music and cat on lap I decided to let go. Just sent her the return conditions which she accepted later on. Still left me lightly restless, until I read the Albert Schweitzer quote! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! With all the craziness we're witnessing in our nation and around the world, your post is very timely. Shalom!
ReplyDeleteHello Linda! 👋 I hope you’re doing well. Thank you for sharing with us. I really like the Get out of mental jail free one today, which is very helpful. 😊
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your snowy pictures! Winter serenity :D
ReplyDeleteLots of good quotes.
ReplyDeleteAmen to "Blessed is the person who is too busy to worry in the daytime and too sleepy to worry at night. "
Hi Linda,

It's hard to get out of our own heads sometimes!
ReplyDeleteVery few can say what J K Rowling said. Thanks, Linda, for all the great quotes.
ReplyDeleteAnn Patchett's is my favorite today.
ReplyDeleteThat whale is amazing! Whales are one of my favourite things. I saved "stop worrying about people who aren't worrying about you" and I am going to print it and give it to a friend who is always afraid of what people are thinking about him.
ReplyDeleteBellas imagenes y certeras palabras, como siempre nos brindas.
ReplyDeleteUn saludo, amiga
Music and cats are two things in this world that are my daily companions.
ReplyDeleteHow are you, Linda?
As always, a solid dose of life wisdom, but also some much-needed humor. Best regards!
ReplyDeleteAbout depression it is si true. You are prisoner of your mind.
ReplyDeleteVery nice quotes that make me thinking about them.
The weather here in Czech Republic is similar. But visit Canada is my dream.
I live about 30 minutes from Tomas Plekanec who plays for Montreal Canadiens he come back to Kladno and right he train the club and Jagr is owner of the club.
Thank you for sharing all the wonderful quotes.
ReplyDeleteAt last I m anaged to find the way to write a few words to you. Thank you for comenting my blog. I was so pleased that a lady from Canada was interested in a blog in Norway. We are both elderly women, and it would have been nice to meet. But you have not been in Norway, and I have not ben in Canada. Therefor we have to comment the blogs.
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful pictures! I wish you all the best!
Greetings from Tove Steinbo/fargeneforteller.
Such a powerful and compassionate collection today. The way you wove together reflections on shame, worry, and the feeling of being trapped in your own mind creates a space that feels both honest and freeing. The reminders about releasing self‑judgment and recognizing the difference between guilt and shame land with real clarity. I also loved the gentle humor about Canadian seasons and the small joys of music, cats, and everyday moments. Your Montreal photos add a calm, grounded pause between the heavier themes, and the videos bring a light lift at the end. This post moves between depth and comfort in a way that feels genuinely supportive.
ReplyDeleteThese quotes are truly uplifting. We have a lot of snow and sun here in Poland. We haven't had a winter like this in many years.
ReplyDeleteBest regards, and I invite you to see my new painting :)
Very extraordinary
ReplyDeleteDuring the dark times of winter, many folks suffer from depression. Thank you for sharing these helpful quotes.
ReplyDeleteWhen you distance yourself from negativity...beautiful things happen....Now that's probably one of the most perfect images and thoughts I know.
ReplyDeleteCats, music, and Canadian weather- the three keys to freedom. Everything’s fine and sometimes, it really is🙂
ReplyDeleteWarm greetings from Cracow, from me and Fluffy!
You put so much time and effort into your posts. Thank you. I especially liked the 'blessed is the person...':)

Bom dia, Linda
ReplyDeleteÓtimas citações, e a pegadinha é muito engraçada. Para quem sofre de depressão, é importante orar a Deus, que cura todas as doenças, e procurar ajuda psicológica e psiquiátrica. Um forte abraço.
Human beings are a combination of many things. Sometimes we remain closed off to some of them, forgetting others that are also very important. The way we face each day helps us to be more or less happy.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday. 😘
Interesting degree. It seems that it has the role of stopping the blizzard.
ReplyDeleteGracias por todos esos mensajes inspiradores y muy ciertos.
ReplyDeleteUn beso.
Music and cats...ah yes. I can attest to the truth of that statement!
ReplyDeleteI lingered on this post so it took me a while to get through it over three days, but here I am. I've had problems with depression on and off, starting in my teens. There's a lot of wisdom in these quotes. Remembering You - the lyrics made me wonder if the show intended to have Edith die, as she did towards the end of the series. Beautiful lyrics.
ReplyDeleteOi, Linda!
