Shame, Worry, Mental Prison

Hello dear friends and fellow bloggers! A very warm welcome to you all! Thank you so much for taking time to come and visit me here! I really appreciate each and every one of you!

Here are today's picks, which I hope will brighten your day in some way!

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. - Albert Schweitzer

When you distance yourself from negativity...beautiful things happen.

                              The Cat Site

Get out of mental jail free - you are released for crimes committed while scared, hungry or heartbroken. Plus for yelling at your kid when you were tired. Hiding in the bathroom at parties because people are exhausting. Canceling plans because your anxiety said, "Absolutely not today." Still being triggered by that thing from childhood. Eating snacks for dinner because your depression said, "no cooking." Proceed directly to your life. Do not pass judgement. Do not collect additional shame. - Karen Salmansohn

Blessed is the person who is too busy to worry in the daytime and too sleepy to worry at night. - Unknown

                              Dwell in Magic

Shame should be reserved for the things we choose to do, not the circumstances that life puts on us. - Ann Patchett

                               Coolnsmart

Shame shouldn't be a symptom of mental illness.

                     Made of Millions Foundation

Having depression is like being in a mental prison - at first, you experience intense sadness, grief or even anger...but over time you get deflated and end up feeling paralyzingly numb. You are imprisoned in your "inner world" and can't engage with the "outer world". You can't feel anything.

                      The Depression Project

I've got the key to my mental prison, but I keep misplacing it between all these "what ifs?!"

                         Door to Self Growth

Your mind can be either your prison or your palace. What you make it is yours to decide. - Bernard Kelvin Clife

                          Wisdom Made Easy

The difference between shame and guilt is the difference between I am bad and I did something bad.

                            Dr. Brene Brown

Stop worrying about people that aren't worried about you.

Worrying is blurrying. It stops you from seeing clearly.
Karen Salmansohn

I have never been remotely ashamed of having been depressed. Never. What's there to be ashamed of? - J.K. Rowling
Heal Thy Ram

No one would ever tell a cancer patient to "Just get over it." Why people think they can tell those with a mental illness as much is baffling. - Sara Ella, Coral

Guilt is just as powerful, but its influence is positive, while shame's is destructive. Shame erodes our courage and fuels disengagement. - Brene Brown

  54. Yes, we confirm the motto at the beginning: the cat is in the foreground. That's how we did it with our two darlings. Both are now in cat heaven, and the neighbour's cat regularly visits us for cuddles and to be protected.

On New Year's Eve, I carried the trembling little animal in my arms half the night to calm him down...

    ReplyDelete

  72. These are good ones Linda. I love your first one and totally agree with it. Albert Schweitzer was a wise man indeed :-D And I need to learn this one: "Stop worrying about people that aren't worried about you."

Hope you are doing better. Did you see my update on Tues? Was at the hospital and don't need to wear the moonboot 24/7. I can learn to walk but only put a little weight on it and build up gradually. Need to wear the boot for walking though. Now it is being used the pain has started and the doctor said to fight through it.

Not worrying is quite difficult at the moment, though.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I had never heard any words to that song at the end of All in the Family either. Funny how we can miss things in the past. Or maybe forget them. It is amazing what our minds tell us when we are not feeling well. And I agree that I just want to be away from people, it is too overwhelming at times.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Líbí se mi citáty, protože duševní choroby se rozšířily. "Dejte své starosti do bubliny a odfoukněte je". Kéž by to šlo!

  87. This morning I woke up to a complaint from a customer about a book I sold. Imo totally discussable, but sitting with good music and cat on lap I decided to let go. Just sent her the return conditions which she accepted later on. Still left me lightly restless, until I read the Albert Schweitzer quote! Thank you!

  103. Such a powerful and compassionate collection today. The way you wove together reflections on shame, worry, and the feeling of being trapped in your own mind creates a space that feels both honest and freeing. The reminders about releasing self‑judgment and recognizing the difference between guilt and shame land with real clarity. I also loved the gentle humor about Canadian seasons and the small joys of music, cats, and everyday moments. Your Montreal photos add a calm, grounded pause between the heavier themes, and the videos bring a light lift at the end. This post moves between depth and comfort in a way that feels genuinely supportive.
