The following photos are my own, which I took with my cellphone here in Montreal on March 12th, the day after we got freezing rain! This first photo shows part of a sidewalk that is caked in ice. You can click on any image to see a larger view.

These last two photos show trees and bushes buckling under the weight of the ice! You can see the branches buckling under the pressure.

The following video is a Just for Laughs Gag (Juste pour Rire in French) done here in Montreal. Enjoy!  :)

  2. Hey Linda! Here's to a kickbutt strong week ahead for us all. Love the shots and burrrrr on the freezing. That's how was here yesterday and today, windows open. Friday, it felt like a tornado day (we had one touch down 7 miles from my house awhile back and now we're headed into tornado season again). Today windows open and lots of wind. Tomorrow? Who knows? Anyone's guess.

  3. PS: And it was the loudest train I ever did hear. The tornado. Anyway, hope it warms up there soon. Have a kick-butt goooood week.

  10. morning greetings from kuala lumpur! muslims in malaysia and around the world are waiting to celebrate our annual festival (eidul fitri) this coming weekend, so I'll be travelling back to my hometown on wednesday evening to gather with my big family and to visit my mom. The journey usually takes around 7 hours drive by car, if it is not so heavy traffic. Anyway, for today's pick-- i choose this quote : Do today what must be done. Your tomorrow may never come...indeed!! anyway, i love to see your pictures of snow especially those icy branches! it looks freezing but still a view which is unique for those living in tropical countries like me :) till then, take care dear linda! have a lovely day!

  17. Hi Linda! what a beautiful collection of thoughts. I especially love the idea of "glimmers," those little flashes of joy that sometimes go unnoticed amidst the daily grind. In the end, selfesteem is also built with small acts of kindness toward ourselves, with the ability to recognize our own worth, and with the sensitivity to see beauty even on the coldest days. Thank you for sharing these luminous reflections. Kisses

  38. Oh Linda, it still looks very much like you're in the deepest winter. So much ice! It took me a while to appreciate my "self". Now I'm comfortable being who I am. Aww the little rat. They are so clever! Have a beautiful week ahead☺

  39. Good photos Linda. Love the Stephen Fry quote and "Some stranger somewhere still remembers you because you were kind to them when no one else was." SOOOO true! I remember things people have done and said from years ago :-D Have a good week Linda :-D

  48. Lindo, téma je moc důležité - sebeúcta a mít se rád. V dnešním světě je hodně depresí, je třeba začít u sebe!
Takové projevy zimy na fotografiích opravdu nesnáším, mrznoucí déšť a neschůdné chodníky mám z celé zimy nejméně ráda. Přináší to pak spoustu úrazů i dopravních nehod.
Přeji příjemný nový týden, Lindo. ☺

  49. Thanks for a nice collection. Now I'll be humming the theme to Welcome Back Kotter all day :-)

  52. Oh, I hate ice rain with passion and gives me such creeps!
Such massive difference between Montreal and Central Europe, here we have 24C in the sun, all the flowers are blooming, I filled my palace with daffodils, but we do have a cold front coming in tonight and it should drop to 12C during this week with rain.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thank you, Linda, for all the gorgeous "glimmers" you've sent our way today! I do hope that ice didn't stick around too long; it can be so dangerous. Blessings!

    ReplyDelete
  54. These do bring a glimmer of light to my day.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh no, I'm not a cat person, and I better be nicer to the cats. ; ) I've had dogs all my life, so many different breeds. The "stranger" quote is beautiful. Your icy photos are pretty, and I never get tired of seeing snow pictures. And my favorite quote on here was....."Life grows lovely where you are." Have a wonderful March week, Linda. Thank you for all the light you shine on your blog friends. : )

  60. Linda, today I’m going with the one about hugs. I remember reading some time ago in a study that for a hug to have that comforting and healing effect, it needs to last at least eight seconds. So today I’m sending you one of those. Have a lovely week.

  65. I'm rather enjoying your pictures of the cold. Ah, cold. I know it's terrible for me to weather complain, but I'm going to whine because it's supposed to be in the 90s F this week (30s C), and I'd like some cool weather, please.

  67. Hello, Linda! So, many good quotes today!!! I needed to read a lot of them. :)

  68. As is true EVERY TIME I access your blog, I am comforted, lifted up, and encouraged. Thanks so much! BTW, regarding "Welcome Back Kotter", John Travolta lives here in my town, in Ocala, Florida! He owns 2 or 3 airplanes (jets, actually) and has a tarmac in his front yard where he keeps the largest one, a jet liner, 737 or something like that.

  70. Oooh, icy sidewalks and trees are scary! Snow is preferable. I've always tried to be kind and because of that, I have many great relationships in my life, including former students who now invite me for coffee dates. :) I love the idea of glimmers; it's what I look for, those small moments of light and joy.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would rather have snow over freezing rain because the ice makes the roads / sidewalks treacherous and they can also cause power outages.

    ReplyDelete
  72. More thought-provoking goodies...thank you!

  73. Hier scheint es mit dem Schnee vorbei zu sein. Ich hoffe, dass sich der Frühling dauerhaft hält.

  75. Wonderful quotes.
Ice on the trees looks pretty but can do so much damage!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Great pictures of the ice on the road and trees. Probably not so great to be walking around on though. It must have been very slippery out.

    ReplyDelete
  77. You are such a kind soul. I appreciate these words of wisdom; I'm trying to make a large improvement in my life that is long overdue. ~nods~ I like your photographs but it's always sad to see vegetation breaking under a coating of ice. Be well, my dear!

    1. Hi Darla, thank you so much for your kind words. 😇 Yes, I was very sad to see the trees 🌳 😢 in that condition. I took the photos to show the effects of the freezing rain. Some of my fellow bloggers have never seen snow or conditions like this.

The icicles on the branches of the trees look nice but poor trees feeling the weight of the icicles. 🥶 Is Spring 🌱 Montreal now? Flowers sprouting everywhere?

  84. The stranger-quote is like true... and very sad.
Oh! I had to learn hugging! Believe it, it was crazy, dear friend Linda. When I visited my parents my Mom gave me a hug. Dad stretched out his hand as if I was a business partner. I take after my Dad...
But friends just... you know... hug me. Some even kiss! (on the cheek).
I´ll try for glimmers! And self-esteem!
Ick to the frozen rain!!! Before Perth I stumbled into that myself, weeee... not funny! But kinda beautiful to see (from afar).
The sheep. Oh. I hope this isn´t what I saw in Sydney.. but the fish is really cute! We should never underestimate other creatures - we´re but one, too, right.
    Reincarnation... who knows?
Cute Olive! I had a mouse - she lived up to nearly 3 years (or was it even 3 1/2?) and was so clever, too. I still miss her.
Sending you warm hugs and much love.

A neve é pesada!!!

  123. Such a thoughtful mix of wisdom and warmth. The idea of glimmers really stands out to me — those tiny, easily missed moments that quietly shift the whole tone of a day. Your photos capture the same feeling in a different way, showing how even harsh weather can hold a kind of fragile beauty. This post feels like a gentle reminder to slow down, notice what lifts us up, and treat ourselves with the same kindness you share here so generously.
